GALLERY IMAGE QUIZZ

• Which illustrations were made by a different creator than Daring-Do? - Which is a digital “morph“?

• Is the picture with something in a picture frame real or digital?

• Why is there a photo of an old man playing your guitar in this gallery? Does he really drink Coca-Cola, Pepsi, or Royal Crown?

• Why does the one caricature have a red eyepatch?

• Purdy the dog feels dejected. Why?

• Are you tempted to make the flatbread recipe? If you do, tell us what you think of it. do you have your own variation to recommend?

• Which is the harder part, the writing or the illustrating?

• Who better than a mouse to be a cheese detective?

• If the advantage of a mouse as a clockmaker‘ s assistant is he is tiny and can go inside grandfather clocks, then isn’t it also a disadvantage, because he is too weak to do anything to repair anything?

• If a mouse adopted a piglet, would the piglet eat the mouse out of house and home.

• Can a pig tap dance?

• Can a small mouse build big flying robots? Can a robot badly miss his maker when the robot is sent on a risky assignment? [Ask me about the role of tearjerkers in literature.]

• Which character is shown in two different stages how’s the work of making the illustration?

• Who has more superpowers? Hero Boy or Hero Girl? Will Marvel and DC Comics censure anyone who even mentions the word “super powers?”

• Can you spot the national power of Scotland? What year was he born? Do you know anybody who looks like him?

• If somebody dances in a big empty room, all alone, does a fallen tree make a sound when it falls in the forest when nobody is there?

• Ludwig Van Roach IV isn’t real, not even in his story world, because He is an undercover Persona adopted by a clever private investigator — Jake Shamus! Who can detect why this is a compound joke name for a PI?

Gallery Notes

• Some of these images are by other artist.

• One is a digital "morph" between two real world paintings.

• Press on the main image window for a pop-up to show the entire image, if part is cut off.

Cartoons & Comics

• Okay now? Who really knows the difference between a cartoon and a comic?

• Are both always required to be funny?

• What about irony?

• Don’t people have different senses of humor?

SIMPLE LINE DRAWING

Ligne Claire is one form of line drawing:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ligne_claire

For examples of "clear line" cartoons, see this search on the topic: Ligne Claire

https://www.google.com/search?q=Ligne+Claire

By the way, did you know you can save a Google search, instead of the individual search results? The advantage, and disadvantage, is that it updates itself over time.

DIGITAL PAINTING

Depending upon the illustrator application used, you are a digital drawing and have a look of being handmade with natural media tools. Some examples here are:

• Ludwig von Roach IV

• The dancer in the empty room.[I first met her in a series of dreams, and they say you only see faces of real people in your dreams, so does this mean she is real?]

• The approximation of Downton Abbey. [Which one is more fake?]

CHILDREN'S BOOK

The Society of Children's Book Writers And Illustrators (SCBWI) is a good place to join for aspiring and advanced children's book illustrators:

https://www.scbwi.org/

An illustrator might get paid anywhere between $1000 and $10,000 to do the artwork.

Sometimes, the author, illustrator, art director, and publisher are the same person. Then, how much do they pay themselves? How would labor disputes be resolved?

VISUAL BOOK

There are other forms of visual books than children’s books. Some examples are:

• Graphic Novel

• Instruction Manual

COVER ART

More effort can go into the cover art illustration for a book, because some people “buy with their eyes“, and judge a book by its cover. However, with a book, beauty is more than skin deep.

CARICATURE

What is the difference between caricature and character creation? The essence of caricature is that it should speak in a unique way about somebody who exists, but created characters exist only in one’s mind.

OTHER FORMATS

• Animation can be painstaking, whether done by traditional natural media or digital media, until Artificial Intelligence (AI) starts doing more and more of the work.

• Japanese Anime - Animated imagery in the Japanese style.

• Japanese Manga - 2D imagery in the Japanese style.

• 3D Modeling - 3D Modeling implies a digital model. However, lightweight self-drying cellulose modeling compound like Sculpt-It can be used to make real physical objects. Of course, that physical object then can be scanned and turned into a 3D model!

READER FEEDBACK

What is your favorite style of illustration? Is there a particular image you find more appealing or less appealing from the gallery?

Don't forget to give your thoughts on the quiz. Did you spot any peculiar details. Should we make quizzes a regular feature? Will people feel any anxiety because there are no cheater's notes?
