Hi, I'm Dan, and basically, I'm a glorified babysitter.
My job is to hang out with one of my best friends and do cool things with him.
Sounds dope, right?
In reality, I am a carer, and I support a young man with autism. Working with him over the last few years, we have built up a great relationship and done so many fun things together, from going to the cinema, bowling, and meals out, to visiting theme parks, taking train rides, and even enjoying holidays abroad.
I'm currently dabbling in video editing/content creation to try and make a few extra quid because, as you may know, the care industry doesn't pay well. And as much as I know I could, and probably should (due to my financial difficulties), find a new job with better pay, I can't bring myself to leave the guy I care for.
He's become like a brother to me. My family has even adopted him in as an honorary brother and affectionately call him 'Brother (his name)'.
We've celebrated my family birthdays and events together, shared moments of laughter and tears, and he's been there for me when I was at my lowest. Honestly, helping him and watching him become more stable and independent is what has gotten me out of bed on more occasions than I'd like to admit.
So if you're feeling generous and want to support my journey as a carer and budding content creator, consider buying me a coffee. Every sip fuels not just my caffeine addiction but also the passion I have for making a difference in my friend's life and exploring new creative avenues. Thanks for being a part of this journey with me!
