Restoring Basma's Smile

Restoring Basma's Smile

Jul 05, 2024

imageThis is my daughter, Basma. She is 6 years old. I named her Basma so I could always see a smile on her face. Unfortunately, in this war we are living through, the smile of my little beloved has disappeared.

She loved life, playing, studying, and adored her kindergarten. Her teacher always told me how special, loved, and kind she was. But the war deprived her of all that. Now Basma lives in a fabric tent, exhausted both physically and psychologically. She wakes up every morning to ask me the same questions:

"Why are we in this tent?"

"Why has my body changed and burned like this?"

"Why don't you bring us healthy food that strengthens our bodies like you used to before the war?"

"Why can't I go to my kindergarten and play with my friends?"

image

I can't answer all these questions. I don't have the strength to tell her that our house has been leveled to the ground, which is why she is in a tent. I don't know how to tell her that her kindergarten no longer exists, that the occupation bombed it with several missiles, and that most of her child friends have become martyrs because the occupation killed them.

Help me restore the smile to my little daughter's face, provide her with healthy food, and continue her education in a safe country.

Help me take her out of Gaza to a safe place and give her back the childhood she lost in this cruel war.
