I went into this project with a simple idea.
A world map where people can plant flower emojis.
Period.
That idea blossomed (heh, no pun intended!) into a whole thing! Once I started posting and sharing the link, I realized how much joy it was bringing people to do something together... as a community. Every morning I would wake up and smile at how many flowers were planted and bloomed over night.
I randomly said "300 is my goal for today" and before I knew it, there were 300+ flowers planted.
But what if I could turn these virtual flowers into something real?
I set my new goal for 500 and made a commitment:
If we reach 500, I'm making a donation to an environmental organization.
I stumbled upon The Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund and it just felt right. They design native wildflower habitat for landowners and they've put over 7,000 acres of it in the ground across 18 US states.
I made the announcement and within one day 150 more flowers were planted and I hit my goal of 500! I was actually out listening to a live jazz band when it happened, but I still made the donation (RECEIPT) as promised. It feels good knowing I'm helping - we're helping - to make the world a more beautiful place.
My next goal is 1000.
I've already decided...
I'm planting a tree in my local park here in Puerto Vallarta.
And I plan to share the whole process, from picking the tree to buying the shovel to finding the perfect location to putting that baby in the ground. And of course, the good deed doesn't stop there! I'll be watering it and talking to it and nurturing it until it's big enough to take care of itself.
