What is a Tarot reader?

You can easily interpret as “someone who read Tarot cards”. However, not everyone chose to be the ‘someone’, not everyone chose to read the Tarot cards.

According to the Law of Nature, everything in life has a vibration. This is how Tarot cards work. A Tarot reader has to learn to vibrate (i.e. connect) with the cards to decode messages/ energies which are meant to reveal themselves when there is a query. When there is a query, it is often one is not clear about the direction/ cannot access what is within their energy to move forward. Doubt and confusion have arise to overpower the natural flow of energy, and often messing up one’s energetic body.

That is where the cards come in handy, as it was designed based on the four basic elements of matter: Air, Fire, Earth and Water, hence making up the ‘Minor Arcana’ suite contains of 56 cards; while the ‘Major Arcana’ consist of occurrences of life themes over decades for people (especially those private practices which made up a more diverse sense of population compared to major religion practices), as most often you heard of ‘The Fool’ card as beginning of a journey, and ‘Death’ card as ending and transformation. Since the cards were years and years of studies by Mr. Arthur Waite, it carries knowledges and experiences from our ancestors, the people who travelled Earth before us, a reader will learn about the card system, its origin so that he/she can use it as a tool to decode energies.

A Tarot reader usually has interest to learn about the ‘unseen’ and have a belief or faith in his/ her own view of themselves and the world. These views/ beliefs were indeed ‘unseen’ energy off the radar of people around them, which helps in connecting forces that can only be access when one is willing to open the sensory outside of what was taught/ trained over the years. The unseen energy is indeed deep rooted in everyone of us, just that most of our DNAs passed down from our ancestors had been rewired by their environment to close off those ‘unseen energy’. Because what we were always taught is to believe only when we see something ‘physical’, our muscle of working with ‘non-physical’ items/ entities can easily weaken. It is only when one build interest over time on the ‘unseen forces’, the cards can function at its best to bring the unconscious/ subconscious to the conscious mind.

From the point of view in Western Astrology, it is said that strong placement (e.g. multiple planets conjunct/ favourable aspects) in one’s birth chart in the 8th house (which rules the area of magic and occult practices), 9th house (cross culture, education) or 12th house (subconscious, spirituality) will give one a stronger sense of working with Tarot cards. People who make a career out of Tarot card reading could actually have favourable planets that naturally draw them into learning and using this tool to give service to others, such as having Neptune in the 1st house (self-identity) or 10th house (career, prestige). All these natural planetary placements are example how one energy is drawn to work with Tarot cards and hence, they experience less resistance than others when learning and using the cards.

Some people will find a certain period of life where they can read the card and once the period has passed, they lose the connection with the cards. This is absolutely natural as other life decisions are waiting for them and they are not just on the journey with the cards, e.g. some will read energies through Tarot cards for a few years, and then move on to do crystal readings/ healing. One of the reason behind can be: these people were triggered by planetary transitions and was meant to use Tarot card as a tool to shift/ transmute their energy before they move on to their next journey. Isn’t this interesting?

Alright, above are pretty much what I know about ‘What is a Tarot reader’. It is obvious that not everyone will choose to be a reader just like not everyone will choose to be IT software developer/ restaurant owners/ make-up artist. The same theory rule: One must devote time and energy to work with the cards in establishing trust and respect, hence mastering it and use it to serve others (just like everything we live through life!). The long existence of this tool for guidance and prediction has indeed, carved its’ unique way of healing and transforming lives for people in the past decades, and is now, gaining even more popularity in self-care routine. Why so?
