Arrowroot is a root vegetable often sold as a powder. It's used as a thickening agent and gluten-free flour. Many of its health benefits are associated with its starch.

Arrowroot is LIKELY SAFE when the starch is used in foods. There isn't enough reliable information to know if it safe when used in the larger amounts found in medicine. It might cause constipation and stomach discomfort.

Arrowroot contains a good amount of potassium, iron and B vitamins, which is great for metabolism, circulation and heart health. Studies have even shown that arrowroot can stimulate immune cells and boost the immune system.

Arrowroot flour also contains a more calcium than cornstarch. It is naturally gluten-free, making it a good alternative to wheat flour for people with celiac disease or those on gluten-free diets.

Other than the banana bud, there are other foods that are good for diabetes, namely arrowroot and taro. Both tubers are good because of the low glycemic index. The glycemic index in taro is 14.6 while arrowroot tuber has a glycemic index of 32.

Arrowroot reduced diarrhea and had a long-term effect on constipation. It also eased abdominal pain. Arrowroot is an effective treatment for diarrhea. Its action could be explained by several theories which relate to an increase in faecal bulk and thus a more efficient bowel action.

Arrowroot absorbs oils/sebum beautifully and is also promotes natural healing as it penetrates the skin. Rubbing some into skin before bed and in the morning can reduce oil production, soften skin and dry out/heal blemishes. It reduces odours, moisturizes the skin and helps to eliminate toxins.

Arrowroot is white in color and its particles are very lightweight, making it perfect for the hair. It works to absorb oil when used in a dry shampoo, without leaving behind an excess of powdery residue.

Arrowroot, or organic cornstarch, is used in my body-care products as a base for foundation powder and dry shampoo. Arrowroot may also be used to make a homemade baby powder, or added to lotions and body butters to reduce the oiliness.

Magnesium and arrowroot powders absorb moisture and keep odors to a minimum without the use of harsh baking soda which can often cause a rash for sensitive skin. Arrowroot is POSSIBLY SAFE for pregnant and breast-feeding women when taken by mouth in food amounts.

Arrowroot is used as a nutritional food for infants and for people recovering from illness. It is also used for stomach and intestinal disorders, including diarrhea. Some people sooth painful gums and sore mouth by applying arrowroot directly to the affected area. Babies cut teeth on arrowroot cookies.
