Greetings friends and comrades! It's been a minute. By my count, it's been almost a year since I've really written anything, but I'm looking to change that.
The reality is- I'm not much of an internet person. I spend a lot of time on the internet, but not in a way that I would call myself "chronically online." I prefer to be offline, distanced from social media, limiting my overall intake of news and psychic bombardment. I have Instagram on my phone, but I have to go through a four step process to open the app. My primary "social media" is writing letters and engaging in PostCrossing. Putting a stamp on some kind of paper is my love language, my favourite spell.
Maybe I sound like a hipster. That's fine.
While I am happy to post online, it's not really where I'm happiest, and it's certainly not a medium where I feel that my voice is the most represented. My voice comes through in my painting, through my letters, through the pounding clicks and clangs of my typewriter keys. So... I've been asking myself why I feel the need to change my voice in order to conform to the online world. I'm happy to use the internet to connect with people, but what if I just followed my own ideals and methods?
So, that brings us to- Snail Spells.
Snail Spells is a monthly subscription project in which I send a newsletter and a zine to your physical mail box. Paper and ink, sent over physical distance to connect us. The newsletter will be kind of unstructured, more of a journal-letter-page-thing than anything else, and the zine will usually be a mini 8 page zine (but sometimes it will be something bigger). The zines I send will usually be perzines (personal zines that are autobiographical or day-in-the-life things), but occasionally I'll write about magic, sex, the paranormal, movies, music, or anything else under the sun that is of interest to me.
