I'm a UK-based publicist, advanced amateur pianist and writer on classical music under the pen name The Cross-Eyed Pianist. Described by leading British pianist Peter Donohoe CBE as "an important voice in the piano world", my blog The Cross-Eyed Pianist is one of the UK’s leading websites devoted to classical music and the piano. Since founding the site in 2010, I have written extensively on music, performance and musicians for an international readership, and in 2012 I launched Meet the Artist, a series of interviews with musicians and composers. Featured artists include Sir Stephen Hough, Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Isata Kanneh-Mason, Katia and Marielle Labèque, Maxim Vengerov, and Steven Kovacevich, as well as many young and emerging artists. My writing has also appeared in Pianist, Classical Music, International Piano, The Schubertian, and InterludeHK, and from 2011 to 2018, I was a London concert reviewer for Bachtrack. In August 2026, I published my debut novel 'Facing the Music' under my own imprint, Nine Barrow Press.

I write programme notes for leading UK concert venues, have appeared on BBC Radio 3’s Music Matters to discuss the effect of the internet on music criticism, and am co-editor, with Michael Johnson, of 'Lifting the Lid ', a collection of interviews with leading international pianists of today. I'm Concerts Manager for Chamber Music Weymouth, a popular monthly lunchtime concert series, founded in 2002 by pianist and teacher Duncan Honeybourne, and a Trustee of Hertfordshire Festival of Music.

In addition to my writing, I'm a freelance publicist for a number of music organisations including the Royal School of Church Music, Hertfordshire Festival of Music and Leith Hill Music Festival. Previous clients include The Royal Choral Society, composers Russell Hepplewhite, Thomas Hewitt Jones, Bernard Hughes and Joanna Forbes L'Estrange, the Whitehall Choir, Sonoro, The Central Band of the Royal Air Force, and Kahn & Averill publishers.

An advanced amateur pianist, I returned to the instrument after an absence of some twenty years, gaining professional performance diplomas with distinction in my late forties.

When not engaged in musical activities, I enjoy cooking and gardening.
