#MothersDay always brings up memories .. A familiar voice on the phone, a shared laugh, and that feeling of knowing my mum understands my story because she helped shape it.
I spent many years living abroad, which meant my mum wasn’t just up the road. There were long stretches of time counting the days until I saw her again. In many ways that distance strengthened our bond and made the time together even more precious.
That’s partly why our latest Creative Bubbles piece, Mums & Daughters, means a lot to me.
I really enjoyed illustrating Natasha’s poem. Her words capture the love between mothers and daughters, and I wanted the artwork to reflect that connection, with a mum and her daughter standing side by side beside the sea at sunset.
Mums & Daughters
Hands across seas, hearts linked over shores,
A mother’s hope is a daughter’s love.
A daughter’s dream is a mother’s wish -
For a life filled with joy and success.
To achieve with grit, to meet failure with grace,
A mother’s hand wipes tears from a daughter’s face.
A mother’s worry becomes a daughter’s chance.
A daughter’s care holds a mother’s heart.
Mostly different, somehow the same
Mother and daughter know no other name.
Bound by a love strengthened side by side
There is no distance that can divide
This bond so tightly wound together
Mum and her girl, always now and forever.
