Tired of the algorithm? Join us on Mastodon. https://mastodon.cpurecords.club/@admin
Mastodon is a decentralized social network often compared to X but it works very differently behind the scenes.
Instead of one company owning the entire network, Mastodon is made up of thousands of independently run servers (called instances) that can still talk to each other. Together, these connected platforms are known as the Fediverse.
Why?
1. Decentralized ownership
No single corporation controls the entire network.
Different communities run their own servers with their own moderation rules, themes and culture.
That appeals to people who dislike:
algorithm-heavy feeds
corporate control
sudden policy changes
billionaire ownership of platforms
2. Chronological feeds instead of engagement algorithms
Most Mastodon timelines are shown in time order.
That means:
fewer “ragebait” recommendations
less addictive feed optimization
more control over what you actually see
Many users describe it as feeling calmer and less noisy than mainstream social media.
3. No ads by default
Most Mastodon servers do not run advertising.
The ecosystem is usually funded by:
donations
memberships
volunteers
nonprofits
That changes incentives significantly compared with ad-driven platforms.
