4 tricks that make lesson planning stop feeling impossible

Let’s be honest.
Lesson planning isn’t hard because we don’t know how to teach.
It’s hard because we do everything alone.

Here are 4 tricks teachers use to make lessons easier - and actually enjoyable:

1️⃣ Let the story do the work
Start with a short audio story, not objectives or rules.
When students care about what happens next, attention solves itself.
That’s why Cozo The Great starts with a 4-minute episode - not instructions.

2️⃣ Stop pre-teaching everything
You don’t need to explain all the vocabulary upfront.
Confusion + curiosity = real listening.
Clarify after students are invested.

3️⃣ Use one worksheet - not five
One well-designed worksheet is enough if it follows the story.
Predict → react → respond → create.
Less paper. More thinking.

4️⃣ Aim for talk, not “correct answers”
If students are arguing, guessing, rewriting endings - you’re winning.
Grammar can wait. Engagement can’t.

When lessons are built this way, teachers stop fighting the room.
The content carries the class.

And suddenly, lesson planning doesn’t feel so terrible anymore.
