Afternoon Tea in London - a very British tradition!

Dec 08, 2024

London is famous for its afternoon tea, and there is certainly no shortage of amazing places to indulge in this quintessentially 'British' tradition.

Of course - you have all the top and most expensive afternoon tea experiences, at places such as The Ritz, The Savoy, Claridges and The Lanesborough hotels. But perhaps you don't want to spend quite that amount, but still have a fabulous time. So here are some of my mid-range recommendations where you can still have a fabulous experience without breaking the bank.

  • The Wolseley

Located near to The Ritz Hotel, you can enjoy afternoon tea at The Wolseley everyday of the week. It's best to book if you can, but walk in's are also accepted, subject to availability. Here you can enjoy a Cream Tea for £19.50 per person, classic Afternoon Tea for £46.50 per person or Champagne Afternoon Tea for £59.50 per person. 3pm - 6.30pm Monday to Friday and 3.30pm - 6.30pm on Saturday's and Sunday's. https://www.thewolseley.com

  • The Clermont Charing Cross

Available everyday of the week from 12 noon until the last seating at 4.30pm, you can enjoy a classic afternoon tea in the conservatory here for £40 or for something a bit different, look a their 'Wicked' themed afternoon tea. The Clermont is excellent for their service and this is a well priced, lovely place to try. https://www.theclermont.co.uk

  • The Cellarium Cafe in Westminster Abbey

A pretty special place for afternoon tea, you can enjoy dining in Westminster Abbey itself in the Cellarium Cafe for £36.50 per person. Afternoon tea is served between 12 noon - 4pm. https://www.westminster-abbey.org

  • The Peter Pan Afternoon Tea at The Aquashard

With THE most amazing views, this is a fabulous experience. Situated on the 31st floor of The Shard, enjoy the Peter Pan themed afternoon tea at The Aquashard. (Ask for a window table) With a stunning tea of delights and views that money really can't buy, this is a fabulous way to spend the afternoon! This afternoon tea starts at £70 per person and is served from 12 noon - 3.15pm. £2 from each afternoon tea sold goes to Great Ormond Street children's charity for seriously ill children. https://www.aquashard.co.uk

  • The Delaunay, Aldwych WC2

For a weekend afternoon tea, this is a lovely and well priced option served on Saturday's and Sunday's only between 3pm - 5pm. Here you can enjoy a classic Afternoon Tea for £34.50 per person or a champagne afternoon tea for £49.50 per person. https://www.thedelaunay.com

  • Bridget's, Covent Garden

A family business since 2010, this is a fabulous and well priced Afternoon Tea option in the heart of Covent Garden. Priced at £40 per person, this is an extremely popular place for tea and booking is essential. You might want to look at their afternoon tea bus tours too, on which they serve over 600 afternoon teas a day! There are different themed options from which to choose, along with a Christmas lights tour, a Peppa Pig bus tour and a Paddington Christmas lights bus tour, so these can be a great option for children and adults too! https://www.b-bakery.com

If you're looking for a gift for somebody who is coming to London, an afternoon tea voucher makes a lovely pressie too!
