It takes only several tram stops from the Tallinn City Centre to escape the rush of the city and enter a different world. When I got off, north of Tallinn, the feel of the area was completely different. I would swear that I am in the countryside and not 15-minutes away from the capital city. That is Kopli!
Kopli is an area where Roland Põllu is running his Kokomo Roastery and Café. The signs of the old industrial area are still visible. Large, concrete buildings make an interesting contrast with wooden houses. Upon entering the compound of a factory, where Kokomo is now located you can tell that something exciting is happening there.
This place got a new life and new purpose thanks to the entrepreneurs who opened their businesses there. It all started with Roland. He saw the potential in the area and moved his roastery and café to Kopli. In the interview, he tells you more about the journey.
Listening to Roland and his experience you cannot but wonder - can speciality coffee bring life to underdeveloped areas? Because Roland did it several times and it always had a huge effect on the development of the area.
