Farrukh Ahmad passed away on October 19, 1974, in Dhaka. Throughout his life, he championed the cause of the underprivileged in his poetry, but his own life was filled with hardship. His commitment to Islamic ideals led to numerous sacrifices. He lost his job at Dhaka Radio, and one of his sons, who was studying medicine, had to abandon his education due to financial constraints. One of his daughters died because they couldn’t afford medical treatment. During Ramadan, despite his poor health and financial difficulties, he observed fasting without eating. On the 27th night of Ramadan, the poet passed away.

A dispute arose over where he would be buried. Noted journalist Asafuddowlah Reza and others tried to secure a government burial site for him, but none was provided. Finally, poet Benazir Ahmed donated a spot in his family graveyard in Shahjahanpur for the burial. Reflecting on Farrukh Ahmad’s tragic end, writer Ahmed Sofa remarked, "In today's Bengali literature, there isn't a single creator as powerful as Farrukh Ahmad. We forced such a creator to die slowly in starvation. Future generations will not forgive us."
