What Level 5 Taught Me Today

What Level 5 Taught Me Today

Jul 03, 2026

This a.m. one of my clients reminded me of something I think a lot of us forget.

During every workout, I ask my clients to rate the difficulty of an exercise from 1 to 10.

1 = ridiculously easy.

10 = there's absolutely nothing left.

After three sets of push-ups, I asked her where she was.

She said, "It was hard... probably a 5."

Later we increased the weight on another exercise. She said it burned. It was uncomfortable. She didn't like it.

I asked again.

"What number?"

She smiled.

"Still a 5"

That hit me.

Sometimes life convinces us that discomfort means danger.

It doesn't.

Sometimes what feels difficult is only a Level 5.

It's uncomfortable.. . but it's completely manageable.

The real question isn't whether life is hard.

The real question is:

How many Level 5 problems are you avoiding because they feel uncomfortable?

That difficult conversation.

That business you've been wanting to start.

Making the phone call.

Walking into the gym.

Posting the video.

Applying for the opportunity.

Holding yourself accountable.

Maybe none of those are actually a 10.

Maybe they're just a 5.

And if they're only a 5...

Keep pushing.

Growth has never lived inside comfort.

Today's challenge:

Identify one Level

5 you've been avoiding and knock it out today.
