We've put off asking as long as possible but feel it's time to ask for an optional contribution to running costs for ladder. Our costs aren't huge, but are increasing as we scale and it no longer seems fair to have to dip into our own (or more accurately Gareth's) pockets for these.
While we understand that Zwift is free for us to use as an organiser, and our time is also donated for free, like many large community organisers we are reliant on other 3rd party platforms to help put on events, and these come with costs for us to use. Currently we have no other income streams to cover these costs, so like many other large organisers we are asking for assistance with these costs. This is not an entry fee, it's an optional donation.
We don't want money for our time or "for coffee" (despite the fundraising platform....), and definitely don't want to feel indebted to anyone for anything, in fact just £1 per team would be enough to cover all historical costs and through to the summer at current projections. We'll raise again when these funds deplete.
Current Cost Breakdown
To date- c.£30 hosting costs (we made savings with some credits from our host).
Ongoing costs- c.£15/month for a combination of hosting & Discord tools for community management. These will scale as the volume of teams increases, particularly on hosting costs due to data requirement.
Cost Visibility
All funds will be held in a dedicated Starling account for Ladder. We'll update periodically on funds held and outgoings for the past period.
Future Fundraising
All new team welcome notes will include a suggestion of a £1 donation on initial entry. We'll raise again when our funds deplete.
Should we ever decide to stop the ladder, any leftover funds will be donated to World Bicycle Relief.
I want to stress again, we are not looking for significant sums, this is an small optional donation for each team on a semi-regular basis to help cover our costs.
Thanks again for all your support to date.
