About Clay Lane
bringing pre-Sixties English classes back to life
My name is Nicholas. I am the creator of Clay Lane.
Clay Lane is inspired by textbooks on English language and literature written by Yorkshire schoolmaster NL Clay, and used in English schools and homes from the 1920s to the 1960s. It is ideal for those who prefer traditional methods and content.
Read short extracts from fiction, poetry and history. Tackle brainteasers in grammar and vocabulary similar to those Clay gave to his pupils. Ask for help if you need it.
This is a website for people who care about the language, literature and heritage of the English people. By choosing to support Clay Lane on ‘Buy Me a Coffee’, you are keeping the site online and growing.
