I missed giving this update. It's a little late, but I want Bear’s friends to know how he felt after surgery.
On July 17th, Bear had enucleation surgery on his right eye due to a mass in his iris. I was devastated, but it was the only way to relieve the pain he must have been feeling. The surgery went well, and I was so grateful to have him home safe and sound.
The first three days were rough, and he was understandably sensitive and uncomfortable. But after that, he bounced back faster than I could have imagined! Seeing him return to his playful, curious self was such a relief.
It took about a week for him to navigate the house without bumping into things on his right side. Honestly, I think he sees better with one eye than I do with two!
Even as he regained his energy and wanted to play, he had to stay calm—no small feat for Bear.
On July 30th, his sutures were removed, and his doctor cleared him for normal activities. He was overjoyed to swim, run, and play again.
While I miss seeing him with both eyes, his permanent winky-flirty look is something I adore. Special needs pets are just as beautiful as any other, whether the challenges are visible or invisible.
Most importantly, Bear is happy—and that is all that matters to me.
