Another crazy film from Yorgos. This one pushes the comfort of the audience more than his others I felt. It’s strange, unsettling, and has twists. Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are excellent, though I wished for a bit more depth to Jesse’s character — there’s something in his outlook that feels only half-explored.
This is a more restrained, serious Yorgos — less absurd than The Favourite or Poor Things, more open to interpretation, almost Lynchian at times I felt. The score was good in moments but too brief in my view, it’s a quiet, dialogue-driven film that leaves space to think.
I think the film is best seen in a cinema rather than waiting for it to be on streaming channels at home — for the shared experience from shock of certain scenes but also for the distraction free time to absorb this film fully.
You might love it, you might hate it, but it’s unmistakably Yorgos own vision: a true art piece that stands apart from anything else.
