From sketchbook to a personal project
In the summer of 2023, I had the pleasure of visiting the enchanting island of Bali. I was immediately drawn to its rich culture and friendly people. Bali offers everything from lush green rice terraces to exotic wildlife in the tropical jungles, serene waterfalls, and ancient Hindu temples, making it a paradise for nature lovers.
My Bali adventure was so awe-inspiring that I felt compelled to create a practical tool - a foldable poster. This poster is a comprehensive guide that offers information and intriguing facts about Bali for those who wish to delve into its wonders.
As a freelance illustrator or someone who enjoys drawing, it is common to carry a sketchbook. I always have one with me, and during my recent trip, I took notes on anything that caught my eye.
I recorded everything from tropical plants to votive baskets filled with flowers, words, and gestures in my sketchbook. Personal projects like these can be significant for us illustrators, as they allow us to explore our creativity outside of client work and can lead to personal growth and development in our artistic style.
I am delighted with how my Bali guidebook project has turned out, from the lively illustrations to its potential usefulness for travellers. Over the years, personal projects have always presented new and exciting opportunities for me, and I hope this one will be no different.
