Mandela Day Sunrise over Umhlanga Rocks

Mandela Day Sunrise over Umhlanga Rocks

Jul 18, 2024

Mandela Day sunrise.

This morning I was at a client's house taking them for their training session. The sunrise was looking spectacular and I simply had to get a quick shot. Whilst she was doing her warm up walk, I rushed down to Bronze Beach, took two photos and rushed back up. I was gone for a total time of 8 minutes, got a brisk run in, and got my photos in that time.

There have been a few times in my life where I've missed opportunities to take a photo of the beauty that I'd seen at that moment, and it ends up bothering me for days or even weeks. I imagine the photo I could have gotten and it becomes an obsession. Whenever I see something so spectacular, such as this morning's sunrise, I just have to try and get a photo. When beauty stirs my soul and ignites my spirit, I need to try and capture it.

Living in South Africa, we are constantly surrounded by beauty. Often we focus on what's wrong and overlook the beauty that's all around us. It's my aim to share the beauty, as I see it through my lens.

Beauty, like this morning's sunrise, only needs a moment to see and appreciate. In a rush, and at a glance...

Beauty happens whether you take heed, or ignore it. But, if you take a moment to appreciate it, your whole world can change.

Take a moment, on Mandela Day, and look for something beautiful. A child's smile, a beautiful cloud or sunset, or anything that stands out to you. Cherish the moment, even if it's fleeting. It will be yours forever.

Here are the two photos I took this morning. I converted the one into black and white. I hope that you like them.

South Africa is always leaving me in awe of her beauty.

Keep looking for the beauty. It's there...

I am Proudly South African.
