4 Minutes of Lightning over Umhlanga Roc ...

4 Minutes of Lightning over Umhlanga Rocks.

4 Minutes of Lightning.

A quick thunderstorm came flashing over Umhlanga this evening.

I was sitting at home watching some TV with my cats. It's been raining most of the evening, but we hadn't had any lightning in Umhlanga. Suddenly, I heard some thunder in the distance. My cats and I sprang into action: they went and hid in the cupboard, and I went to try and take a photo.

I went down to Bronze Beach. The salty air was cool in the wind. The ocean was at low tide, revealing some of "Umhlanga's rocks"...
The storm appeared to be coming in from the south, so I pointed my camera down over the Umhlanga skyline.
Lightning flashed across the sky, with thunder in tow.

I could only take photos for a few minutes before a heavy downpour of rain drenched my efforts, and I was forced to take cover. Before I did, this was what I managed to capture in 4 minutes. I hope that you like it.

This is a composite image created from some of the images that I captured, which have then been overlayed to create the single image. If you have a close look, you'll notice a whole bunch of spots around the lightning. These spots are actual raindrops that have been captured by the flash of a very bright lightning strike, making it appear motionless in the photo.

South Africa has the most incredible beauty, and her storms are amazing. Keep looking for the beauty. It's there...

I am Proudly South African.
