How can we bring Russia's war against Ukraine to an end? My last post was about helping Ukraine, but what else can the democratic world do, apart from helping Ukraine? It turns out there's quite a lot we could and should do.
We can ensure Russia can't fund its military machine.
We can stop doing any kind of business with Russia.
We can recognise that Russia represents a huge threat to our own security. Doing so would motivate us to think and act very differently.
We could use the assets seized from Russia to fund Ukraine's war effort and later recovery.
We should think (very hard) about the consequences if Ukraine loses this war.
We can apply secondary sanctions where necessary to tighten the effects on Russia.
We need the political will to get these things done. And we need to start right now. Why should our taxpayers cover the costs of defeating Russia and rebuilding Ukraine?
