Day 11: Thursday 04/11/24

Yesterday I began to break out of my 5-day writing rut. And as much as I’d like to say that today I busted that sucker wide open and am 100% back on track, that ain’t the case.

I did have a great morning writing session tho.

Live Writing Sprints on Youtube

My friend Michael hosted live writing sprints again on his Youtube channel. And since I missed the last one or two due to my little funky funk, I made sure to be there this time around.

So from 9:30a to about 11:30a we did four writing sprints, 25 minutes each with a few minutes in between to chat and chill (and snack and pee).

After five days in a row of zero words, I had some catching up to do. Plus, I didn’t do my “daily” Camp Nanowrimo updates on Buymeacoffee, so I was eager to get caught up on those too.

For the first sprint, I spent the first seven minutes setting up my daily planner and just getting ready to write. But I still got in 18 minutes during that sprint. I wrote the entire Day 4 Nano blog post with 280 words.

For the second sprint I wrote 417 words and knocked out the Camp update for Days 5-9 (aka the 5-day writing rut). Then for the third sprint I wrote about yesterday, when I wrote a short article for Textbroker and started to get back on track.

So that was it. I actually spent the fourth writing sprint sketching out the thumbnail image for the Day 4 blog update.

I managed to hit 875 words for that morning writing session. So that felt pretty good.

And if I was writing this update on Day 11 (like I should), then we could say that my writing rut was busted.

But I only wrote the first half of this blog post on Day 11. The rest of it was written on Day 16.

So yeah, that means I hit a dry spell again for days 12-15 (edit: nope…12-17 dammit). There’s not much to say about that. I felt blah. Dramas. Stuff I mentioned briefly in the update for Days 5-9.

But in the next post on Days 12-15, I think I will talk more about these writing ruts. Zero-word days. Because I bet I’m not the only one doing Camp Nanowrimo who is putting up zeroes during this challenge.

So tomorrow let’s talk about how personal struggles impact writing productivity.
