if you don’t already know me, my name is chloe. i’m an avid (baby) traveler who has been to more than 50 cities across 28 countries. honestly, considering my age and (now lack of) occupation + spending power, i’m incredibly blessed and privileged to have seen so much of the world; i know a lot of people don’t have the time or funds, or even the want for it.
so it was definitely depressing for me when covid hit 5(!!) years ago and i couldn’t travel bc the borders were closed. singapore was one of the first few places that encountered the pandemic, and i remember squeezing in a final trip to new york (against my mom’s wishes). when i came back home, i found out that i left new york literally right when the pandemic blew up there and they went into lockdown (phew!). but that’s a story for another day.
since the borders reopened in 2022, my travels have largely been to east asia and SEA, with annual trips to perth (my sister and brother in law live there). in the last year (2024) i’ve already been to 7 countries!
i’ve always loved traveling. being a planner, i tend do a ton of research on the places i’m traveling to, and i’m the kind who tries to avoid tourist traps as much as possible (unless ofc it’s my first time to a country and it doesn’t hurt to explore right? do it for the plot!). as much as possible, i love learning, understanding and immersing myself in the culture of the place i’m in, which also means knowing the “rules and regulations” and picking up a couple of foreign phrases, especially in countries where english isn’t the first language.
i guess some (or most) of you might be wondering why i’ve started this page. tbh, i don’t see myself as a travel content creator; i mainly document my travels via IGS, which are then saved to highlights. honestly, it’s just a visual diary for myself to remember the places i’ve visited, loved and enjoyed. the content economy is also saturated with so many other talented people who can create much better visual content that i can. as someone who has worked in the content/media/advertising industry for 5+ years, i know how much effort is required to curate content (especially travel) as a full time job.
despite that, over the last 2-3 years, i’ve received many requests from family and friends on travel recommendations, especially to korea (which i guess is my specialty since i’ve been there close to 10 times 😂). given my “expertise”, of course i want to “un-gatekeep” and share the places and experiences that i loved!
however, what i’ve realized is that it is a little difficult to share just a saved map, vs spotlighting the must-visits (in my opinion). my personal map is a cumulation of places that i have been to, but also places i’ve not (but want to go), and i understand that can be a little tricky to navigate.
it also didn’t make sense for me to list down places one by one with links on a word format and send it to my friends (which is what i’ve been doing painstakingly), as each person has different likes, inclinations and priorities when it comes to traveling.
as such, i’ve decided to embark on this little passion project to curate various “101s” on the locations, experiences i’ve visited, which are coupled with notes on what to expect, order, etc. anyone who views this would be able to easily toggle based on their needs and wants, or i could always easily curate a personalized one already knowing what they like! i’ve found a platform that is able to host that, and hopefully as i pilot this (starting with seoul, korea), it’ll be easier for everyone to see them at a glance ◡̈
the world has so much to offer, see, love and appreciate, and it’s my hope that my recommendations can not only help with your future travel plans, but i hope that you’ll get a at least a glimpse of how i felt when i experienced it for myself.
