Baby Mouse Opossums

Baby Mouse Opossums

Feb 20, 2021

immagine These tiny, nocturnal marsupials can be found in South Central America amongst lowland tropical rainforest and cloud forests.

immagine Unlike many marsupials, female mouse opossums do not have a pouch to protect their young as they develop, being born after just 14 days of gestation.

Instead, newborns attach themselves to the mothers' mammae (breasts) where they remain on average for 30 days.

immagine Fortunately enough, these images were captured at the moment of their release after being rescued and rehabilitated by the Toucan Rescue Ranch in Costa Rica.

An entire litter will now safely be on its way to finding a place to call home.
