About CheckpointsProject
A completely anonymous women's safety network.
Welcome to Checkpoints.
This project began six years ago with a simple question was asked online: "What would you do if men didn't exist for 24 hours?" The overwhelming, heartbreakingly common response was simply: "Go for a run at night."
So we got to work- notebook after notebook of ideas, learning all the programming and SQL and myriad languages and computer technical skills to build this exact project. Sometimes we'd think of something and then take four months to fully research out to see if it was even possible. Over that time, we not only grew in complexity, but Checkpoints became a fully featured platform.
Checkpoints is a dedicated network of women protecting other women, designed from the ground up to make not only safety a priority, but thinking about the actual real world use cases where we could be the most useful. Most "competing" sos efforts and systems offer glaring red alert buttons, things that just aren't realistic to how in the real world, an abuser would just throw the woman's phone. So, we obfuscated things- We mapped out all these different places to put the alert triggers, we designed it from the ground up to be not only the most useful safety tool in existence, but also hidden. We have built an exclusive, completely anonymous platform where women can exist safely, without the fear of being tracked, targeted, or data-scraped. Now, we just need the realities of running an office in every city in the country. Your support helps us do that- we do have a subscription model, so user donations are not the primary goal we will be funding this, but it REALLY helps to get this off the ground and make it a reality.
From Silver Cadence Stride—a secure running platform with hidden safety features—to Pathfinders (a digital buddy system for walking home), and Creepstagram (a community-sourced database of abusers) and 9 other main features, every feature is built around a covert SOS system. We enforce total anonymity: sign-ups are handled strictly in person to guarantee no bots and no imposters enter the network.
Why we need your support: We have built the entire Android version and are finalizing the iOS portal completely self-funded and for free. Being only in-person sign ups means not only do we have to pay for our tech stack, like Mapbox mapping services, and multiple backends, but also for physical office space for our employees to work in. Our beta launch is scheduled for June 2026, but to launch at a massive scale, we need physical infrastructure.
Physical Safe Spaces: We require physical offices so women can securely reset passwords in person, and sign up, especially if they are facing domestic abuse at home, being spotted in public at a safety event might be hazardous- The offices are a more discreet way of registration, and also, we can accept cash payments at our offices- making sure that no mention of even our obscured LLC name never shows up on a possibly compromised bank account.
Employing Women: We don't just want volunteers; anyone in America that has been on the job hunt knows it's rough out there. Our goal is to create meaningful, paid jobs for women to manage these spaces and protect their communities. Every 600 subscribers funds another full-time staff member, that's paid well, enough for her to be able to afford decent housing, by herself. We don't want the women to work for us to just do well- we want them to thrive, to not only feel like they are making the world better every single day, but to be financially stable while doing so.
Server & Security Costs: Maintaining an anonymous, encrypted network with real-time mapping and video-backed SOS features is incredibly expensive to maintain. We have purposefully never asked for money this entire time during development, because we wanted to make sure it worked, first.
We refuse to take money from unscrupulous corporations wanting to harvest your data. We would rather this project not exist than sell out our community. If you believe women have a right to exist safely and be listened to, please consider supporting us. Every contribution brings us closer to a safer reality.
