Hi hey hello. I want to talk about what I am starting with coming into this little project. I am a massively unsuccessful fiction writer with 4 full length novels, 6 short stories, and 2 serial novels currently published. Why am I unsuccessful, you ask? It's because last year I received my tax info for the amount I earned from all of that work; $144 dollars. My life's work almost bought a week's worth of groceries. Golly gee, isn't that a sad statistic! Turns out, you can write the best story you've ever imagined and it doesn't matter because nobody will be there to read it.
Those books are already published, so I don't need to worry about those stories anymore. What I plan on doing is focusing on the future, which means I have to make new stories. And this time, I need to make sure that someone is actually there to read them! That would be a great start. The question is, what story should I tell next?
As almost none of you know, I started my novel career writing romance stories; a rom-com set in a fictional New York City, a romantic drama (with a little erotica) taking place in a small town within driving distance of that fictional New York City, a sequel to that first rom-com, and a side story sorta sequel to that first rom-com. Oh, and the short stories are all hardcore female versus female omegaverse erotica slop, none of which I can link to here, because I, ya know, can't. Which brings me to the two serial novels.
The first is the less obvious one I made; it's a detective story where the main detective wakes up with amnesia. I got about 4 chapters in before the mental breakdown.
The second one I'm writing is a steampunk themed romance story about a struggling book publishing company hiring a blind homeless ghostwriter who has an exceptional interest in hearing the stories of others.
It's also like 4 chapters deep because financial strain is a real bitch on the creativity, lemme tell ya.
Shifting focus, I have also been practicing my art skills pretty hard for the last few years.
Now, I'm obviously no Wlop, I think I've gotten pretty good at it. Hell, I've even managed to snag a vgen code, some crazy how. While I haven't been commissioned yet (as of writing this, at least) I think I would be able to do a decent job of it, given the chance. That reminds me, I did make a logo for a local non-profit a few years back, and my friends keep commissioning me for their little side projects, so I guess I do have some experience after all! Not that I'm begging for commissions or anything. Aw, who am I kidding, I wrote this whole thing for a crowdfunding site!
Anyway, this is the skill set I'm starting with. I can draw somewhat okay, and I can write fiction better than some teachers can teach. What in really missing is the business side of things, and the skills to make all of the other projects I would like to make. But at least I'm not starting from nothing! I choose to believe that that counts for something, at least.
