Stories from the Centre T Shelter: Mark’s Story

Sep 18, 2025

imageNeither repressive laws nor the August shutdown can stop our shelter from doing its work. It continues to welcome people fleeing war and persecution. Today, we’re sharing the story of Mark, who found refuge in our shelter twice — first after escaping from Russia, and later when he lost his housing in Yerevan:

“The first time, I urgently relocated from Russia to Armenia — I had nowhere to live and no money. The second time, I ran into issues with the place I’d been living in for about six months: the landlord suddenly decided to stop renting it out. I felt like my life was just falling apart…”

While staying at the shelter, Mark received psychological support and started taking antidepressants. Life stopped feeling hopeless. Do you remember the Pride-themed cakes from June?

That idea also came to Mark during his time at the shelter:

“The second time I was there, I needed to figure out what to do with myself. Before I realized I wanted to make cakes, I was doing manual labor for very low pay. After burning out from that, I slipped into a pretty depressive state — and then I was suddenly inspired to return to something I used to love!”

🌸 Our shelter runs solely thanks to your support.

Every application for housing is someone’s cry for help. Every safe morning in the shelter is a result of your solidarity.

Monthly donations make it possible to:

— welcome new residents,

— pay rent and utility bills,

— provide food, medication, and mental health care.

🧡 Be part of the community that saves lives.

Regular support = sustainable care.
