Wisdom Wednesday | The Truth About Karma (It might not be what you think)

Sep 24, 2025

Dearest,

And so, we begin again. With the potent energy of the New Moon that arrived on Monday, we have crossed the threshold into a new lunar cycle and our next great journey together:

Clearing Karma & Emotional Healing

The last three weeks were a sacred and necessary exhale. We paused, we took inventory of our hearts, and we prepared the ground for this very moment. Now, with a foundation of self-compassion, we are ready to gently begin this transformative work.

We start with a word that can bring up a lot of fear and misunderstanding: Karma. For many, the word conjures images of cosmic punishment or a rigid system of reward and payback. But this is a profound misinterpretation of one of the most empowering laws of the universe.

imageWhat is Karma, Really?

From a Vedic perspective, Karma is not a system of reward and punishment handed down by an external judge. It is much simpler, and far more powerful than that.

Karma is the universal, neutral law of action and energetic consequence.

Think of it like the law of gravity. Gravity doesn't punish you for dropping a glass; it simply operates. In the same way, Karma is the energetic truth that every action, thought, and word carries a corresponding resonance that creates our reality. It is the unbreakable link between cause and effect.

Why This Understanding is So Empowering

This true understanding of karma is the ultimate antidote to victimhood. If we believe an outside force is punishing us, we are powerless. But when we realize that our past actions and patterns have created our present reality, a profound liberation occurs. Why?

Because it means our present actions have the power to shape a different future.

This is where your power lies. You are not a passive recipient of fate. You are a conscious creator, and every moment is an opportunity to plant a new seed and send out a new energetic ripple.

A Note on Karma and Life's Great Challenges

It is essential to hold this teaching with the utmost gentleness, especially when we face profound life challenges like a serious illness. The true understanding of karma is never, ever a tool for self-blame. You did not "do something wrong" to attract your current circumstances.

The Vedic view recognizes that the karma shaping our lives is vast and complex, woven through many lifetimes. The challenges we face are not punishments; they are sacred assignments from our soul, intended for our deepest growth. The question is never "Why is this happening to me?" but rather,

"What is this asking of me? What is this here to teach me?"

Therefore, the power of our present, mindful action is not about trying to erase our circumstances. It is about transforming our relationship to them. It is about using our practice to find moments of peace, to cultivate unshakable self-compassion, and to anchor ourselves in grace, no matter the storm. This is the path to true freedom.

Your Practice: The Art of Mindful Action

imageThe first step in consciously working with your karma is to bring awareness to your actions.

This week, your practice is to choose one daily activity and perform it with complete, mindful presence.

It could be making your morning tea, washing the dishes, or brushing your teeth. For those few minutes, do only that one thing. Feel the warmth of the water, smell the scent of the tea, notice the movement of your hand. Bring your full, non-judgmental awareness to the simple act.

By bringing loving presence to one small action, you interrupt the momentum of unconscious habit. You practice being the conscious cause of your experience. This is the first, most essential step in clearing old karma and creating a new, more aligned future.

With love always,

Sandra Wilson
