About Carmilla Project
narrative photoshoot inspired by the Victorian era gothic novella
This is a project featuring a collaboration between 5 artists: Katherine Gotard (Co Director), Julia Szabo (Co Director/Costume Designer), Katherine Chung (Draper), Kana Seiki (Stitcher/Actress), and Leah Del Rosario (Actress).
The story is told through Carmilla's best friend and victim Laura's perspective as she recalls the events of their fraught childhood relationship. Carmilla's innocent facade lures Laura into a sense of safety as they navigate the line between childhood play and adult attraction, romance and friendship, the feminine and the monstrous, memory and reality. The historical costumes are the beating heart of this horror story, custom-made for each set and actress.
