What makes a good idea?

imageWhen running our businesses, ideas make the difference between success and complacency. But how do you come up with good ideas? And how do you make sure they are actually good? The simple answer: evaluation.

Luckily, we offer a good idea checklist for your ideas on our Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1490208520.

Go check it out for a comprehensive checklist of evaluation of your big ideas!

Make sure your idea checks these boxes:

-Fills a gap in the market: Make sure that the idea fills an untapped market by providing products or services to fill that gap. This is a crucial step in the evaluation process as it begets the need for your audience that the idea is targeted towards. Making sure that your idea can be developed into a product or service is crucial in this step of the evaluation. Without something at the end of the line that can be sold or save you money, the idea is flat. Good ideas begin and end with making a viable profit.

-The idea is innovative: You need to make sure that your idea is better than any other alternative out in the market. Not only do you need to understand the problem that is being solved by your idea, but your idea needs to solve it better than other solutions out there. Your solution needs to be better in order to be successful. If your idea is already out there, how can you make your idea more innovative than theirs? Your idea’s innovative factor needs to be higher than what is expected and needs to challenge the status quo. And if you want to sell something that is already out there, you need to make sure that your version offers an innovative version or innovative marketing plan.

-Challenges existing alternatives: This follows from the above. Your idea needs to offer a new or better way of doing things than what is already in the market and challenges the status quo. The approaches to the problem that your idea is trying to solve need to be better than other solutions out there.

-The idea stands out: Make sure that your idea will stand out from the existing ones in the market. Your idea needs to be clearly better or in some way different. Being different attracts new people to your products or services and challenges customers of the competition to challenge their way of thinking and flock to you. If your idea doesn’t stand out enough from the competition, their current customers will have no reason to switch. Getting customers to switch to your idea is crucial as it will bring a mainstream audience from the established solution. Converting the customers relies on your idea standing out and being different.
