Grandmama

Grandmama She woke up every day

With her coffee and a smile

Turned on the news and sat down for a while.

Her wrinkled hands had years of work

To show her life’s habits

Her wrinkles around her eyes helped her lurk

For all the outside happenings and rabbits.

She loved her yard sales so much in fact

She’d tap on my window at sunrise

To get me to go and be in tact

And she’d always find a surprise.

She slept with her Bible and read every night

That’s when she slept at all

For most of the time she worried about us

And that consumed her most of all.

She loved her family and showed it in every way.

Her cooking, her hugs, her touch.

She worked like a 30 year old every day

And loved her flowers so much.

She never thought about herself indeed,

She was always there no matter where or how

She always had us cows to feed

And she wanted to feed you now.

But those hands, those precious things

The places and things that they saw

She always wore her very same rings

And going to church was the law.

So many things I miss so desperately,

Her laugh her smell her silly ways

So I write this poem affectionately

Cause she’s not in my days.

If I could have just one more embrace

And tell her what an angel she was

If I could just stare at her beautiful face

And tell her thank you again for loving us.

She was my person and I’m so lonely

Not having my person and best friend

Now I stay so homely

And pray for the mourning to end.

I love you, Grandmama with all my heart

And I know you’re in heaven to see

That I have kept my promise to you

And I hope you are proud of me.

Until the day we meet again,

I’m asking Jesus to hug you for us

And I know just exactly what you would say

I don’t want to make a fuss.

But I see bluebirds everywhere

And that’s what gets me through

That lets me know that you are there

And that will just have to do.

I miss you I kiss you I hold your hand

For you held my heart all these years

Time is truly an hourglass with sand

And doesn’t stop no matter the tears.

I could fill up the Nile with the ones for you

But you are worth every emotion and teardrop

People may not understand my love for you

But that will never make it stop.

Now you are my angel of life

And I’m thankful for your presence no doubt

In our lives even though there’s pain and strife

Love is what it’s all about .

You were the living example of this

And Gods perfect love too

And no matter where this life goes

In heaven I will find you….
