Oy Vey in the D.C. Bathrooms: Nancy Mace, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and the Mishegas Over Capitol Restrooms

In the grand theater of American politics, where every plot twist seems more meshuga (crazy) than the last, Representatives Nancy Mace and Marjorie Taylor Greene have embarked on their latest crusade: legislating bathroom usage in the Capitol. And not just any bathrooms—those used by trans women. Nu, you’d think with the country facing a schmear of real problems like climate change, healthcare, and crumbling infrastructure, they'd find something more pressing to do than playing bathroom bouncers. But here we are.

These two, who often seem like they’re auditioning for a reality TV show called Kvetching with Congresswomen, are treating the hallowed halls of democracy like the Catskills in its heyday. Except instead of comedy, their act is more like a long schpiel filled with tsuris (trouble).

Let’s unpack this balagan (mess). Nancy Mace, who loves to posture as the "reasonable" Republican, appears to have thrown her reason into the garbage like last week’s gefilte fish. And Marjorie Taylor Greene? She’s already got a reputation as the Capitol’s resident meshugener (lunatic), spewing conspiracy theories like an out-of-control soda fountain. Together, they’ve decided that the most pressing issue in America is where trans women, a tiny fraction of the population, answer nature’s call.

The legislation they’re pushing is as unnecessary as a fifth wheel on a unicycle. What exactly are they hoping to accomplish? Protecting the dignity of cisgender women who, let’s face it, probably couldn’t care less? Or is this just another gevalt (shriek) from politicians who need a new bogeyman to rile up their base?

Here’s the emes (truth): this kind of legislation isn’t just a waste of time, it’s a shande (disgrace). Trans women are just trying to live their lives—go to work, buy groceries, and yes, use the bathroom—without being vilified. Meanwhile, Mace and Greene are creating a climate of fear and exclusion for no reason other than political grandstanding. It’s shtik (gimmickry), plain and simple.

Instead of addressing the real challenges Americans face, these two are stirring up bubkes (nothing) while the rest of us roll our eyes and say, "Enough with the dreck (nonsense) already!" Maybe it’s time for Mace and Greene to take a good look in the mirror—and not just to practice their zany talking points.

If they’re so worried about decorum in the Capitol bathrooms, perhaps they should focus on fixing the plumbing instead of clogging up the legislative process with narishkeit (foolishness). Or better yet, they could start addressing the real schmozzle of issues their constituents actually care about.

But until then, all we can do is shake our heads, throw up our hands, and say, "What a couple of nudniks (annoying people)!"
