At approximately 11:00 AM today, Port of Seattle Police were notified of a serious security breach at SEA Airport. An inmate with multiple outstanding warrants from Kentucky escaped federal custody during a transfer process handled by a contracted agent. The fugitive managed to flee during routine procedures at a ticket counter, heading toward the airport’s light rail station. Despite immediate pursuit, agents failed to apprehend him.
Video surveillance later confirmed the suspect boarded a northbound light rail train. Sound Transit officials tracked the fugitive as far as the Capitol Hill station, where he was last seen exiting the train.
This incident raises growing concerns about the use of public transit in law enforcement transfers and the potential threat to civilian safety when dangerous individuals evade custody in high-traffic areas. Law enforcement conducted a thorough sweep of baggage claims, platforms, and other sensitive airport areas. Thankfully, airport operations remained unaffected.
The suspect is identified as:
Sedrick T. Stevenson, 28, African-American male, 5’8”, with dreadlocks. He is wanted for second-degree escape and is considered a flight risk. Photos were released to the public in coordination with law enforcement.
