Hanging Moon Planter

Hanging Moon Planter

May 06, 2023

I want to show you a piece that was made by my grandpa a very long time ago, and I attempted to recreate it with Dollar Tree tumbling tower blocks!

It's not exact, and it's not perfect, but it's not too bad for a first try and I think it will be fun to try again :) It is definitely something that appeals to my love of boho decor!

First, here is a pic of the one my grandpa made:

I think he must have seen it in a woodworking magazine or some such thing, it seems as if it was a popular technique back in the day.

I started off with a box of tumbling tower blocks, and laid out my shape.

This is the basic layout of it, then I tweaked to fit the curve of the original. The first row has 10 blocks. They are about 2" long and 1/2" thick.

The next row (and each row after) is one less, so this one is 9 blocks long. Next row is 8, and so on, till you get to a 5 block row. I used Gorilla Wood Glue to hold this all together.

Here's the first part done.

And flip it over and repeat on the other side. You can see how the pieces are attached to create the curve.

Finally, I added a cup hook and plant chain to hang it up.

Here it is, hanging next to my mom's. I definitely want to try another version of this, maybe even stain it.
