Hello and Welcome, Friends!

I spent the better part of my morning fixing an old wooden gate in the backyard. It is one of those small chores I have been putting off for months. The metal latch had rusted over completely and the wood had swollen from the winter rains so it wouldn't close properly no matter how hard you pushed it. You have to be patient with old wood. You can't just force it or the grain snaps and you are left with a bigger mess than you started with. You have to sand it down layer by layer until you find the true shape again. It took me a while to scrape off the decay and oil the hinges but there is a quiet satisfaction in making something work the way it was intended to. It reminded me that most things in life break slowly over time. We usually don't notice the rust accumulating until the day the latch finally refuses to hold.

We are watching a lot of things break this week and the rust is visible to anyone willing to look. The justice system is snapping under the weight of its own contradictions. The political narratives we were sold are swollen with distortions and simply won't shut. We are seeing leaders try to force square pegs into round holes whether it is a statue on the White House lawn or a prosecutor trying to explain why photographic evidence isn't a crime. They are trying to force the gate closed but the frame is crooked. But we are here to do the sanding. We are here to strip away the rot and the spin to see if there is any solid truth left underneath. Let’s open the gate on today’s news.

⚖️🙈 THE BLINDFOLD: DOJ Washes Hands of Epstein Scandal. The Department of Justice has officially closed its review of the Epstein files with a conclusion that defies logic. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche admitted they possess "horrible photographs" and "troubling emails" but claimed the evidence does not allow for new prosecutions. While officials in the UK and Slovakia are resigning in shame over their connections our DOJ reviewed 3 million pages and 180,000 images and decided not a single accomplice is worth charging.

🤝😰 THE CLINTON CARD: Why Trump Is Suddenly Praising Hillary. The political pivot of the century happened yesterday. Donald Trump the man who built a movement on "Lock Her Up" is now publicly defending Bill and Hillary Clinton ahead of their Epstein depositions. He called Hillary "smart" and "capable" and admitted he "always liked" Bill. This isn't forgiveness. It is fear. Trump realizes that if the Clintons go down under oath they have the power to take everyone in their social circle down with them including him.

⚖️🇫🇷 THE PARIS RAID: France Raids Elon Musk’s X Headquarters. The era of digital impunity hit a wall in Paris yesterday. French cybercrime prosecutors raided the headquarters of X (formerly Twitter) in a probe alleging complicity in the distribution of child sexual abuse material and deepfakes. Authorities have summoned Elon Musk and former CEO Linda Yaccarino for questioning. Musk calls it a "political attack" but the charges focus on the platform’s failure to police illegal content generated by its own AI tools.

🏛️🩸 THE WAR AT HOME: U.S. Citizens Testify on DHS Abuse. A Senate hearing yesterday shattered the myth that federal agents only target undocumented immigrants. Survivors including U.S. citizen Marimar Martinez testified about being shot five times by CBP agents in Chicago. The hearing highlighted that the "border war" has moved into American neighborhoods. Notably the Republican side of the dais was completely empty as GOP lawmakers refused to attend and face the victims.

🗿🌊 DREDGING UP DIVISION: White House Resurrects Toppled Columbus Statue. In a move designed to ignite the culture war the White House is installing a Christopher Columbus statue that was thrown into the Baltimore Inner Harbor by protesters in 2020. The statue is being loaned by a lobbyist group. Adding insult to injury a Trump spokesman defended the move by quoting Tony Soprano: "In this house Christopher Columbus is a hero end of story."

🌍🇱🇹 THE BALTIC CONNECTION: Lithuania Opens Trafficking Probe. While the US closes its investigation Lithuania is opening one. The Prosecutor General launched a pre trial investigation into human trafficking after finding over 1,200 mentions of the country in the new Epstein files. The probe is zeroing in on Valdas Petreikis a prominent event organizer who allegedly received funds from Epstein linked foundations.

⚖️🛌 CONTEMPT OF COURT: The Lawyer Who Begged for Jail. The DOJ is breaking its own people. Julie Le an attorney detailed to the DOJ asked a federal judge to hold her in contempt just so she could get 24 hours of sleep. She told the court "The system sucks" after being assigned 88 habeas corpus cases in a month. She has since been removed from her post for saying the quiet part out loud.

🧱💰 THE WAREHOUSING: $45 Billion for Industrial Detention. The "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" is turning into concrete and steel. The federal government is buying massive industrial warehouses like a $102 million site in Hagerstown Maryland to convert them into detention centers. With 73,000 people already in custody an 84 percent increase from last year they are rushing to build capacity for 100,000 detainees.

🦇😌 THE BULLET DODGED: Nipah Virus Panic Fades. Finally some good news. The terrifying Nipah virus scare in India appears to be over. All 196 contacts of the infected patients have tested negative and the transmission chain is broken. It is a rare victory for public health surveillance and a massive relief for the region.

👵✊ THE GRANDMA SIT IN: Elders vs The Surveillance State. Resistance doesn't always look like a riot. In Vermont a group of elders led by women in their 70s and 80s staged a sit in at the "National Criminal Analysis and Targeting Center." They occupied the lobby of the nondescript office park where ICE conducts its digital surveillance proving that you are never too old to throw a wrench in the gears of the machine.

My gate is fixed now. It clicks shut with a satisfying solid sound that tells me the boundary is secure. It is a small thing but in a world where everything feels broken small repairs matter more than we think. Go fix something today. Mending a fence or calling a friend you have drifted away from or just taking care of yourself. We have to maintain the things we value or they simply rot away until they are useless. The world is going to keep trying to rust our resolve but we don't have to let it.

We are going to need strong gates for what is coming next. The news is heavy and the storm is picking up but we are heavier. We are the ones who hold the line when the institutions fail and the leaders fold. Keep sanding down the rough edges until you find the truth. I will be back tomorrow. Stay safe and keep your heads up.
