🗽🕊️ The TL;DR Report: Tuesday, February 17, 2026

Feb 18, 2026

It is true, when it rains it pours. I don't know about your neck of the woods but here the sky just opened up and decided to never close. It’s been a relentless and hammering deluge that feels less like weather and more like a biblical judgment. The ground is soaked and the roads are rivers and the sound of it battering the roof has been the only soundtrack for the last 48 hours.

To make matters worse the grid finally gave up the ghost yesterday. Just as I was sitting down to compile the breaking news the lights flickered and surged and then died completely. I spent the entire evening in the dark listening to the wind howl and watching my battery percentage tick down to zero. It is a humble reminder of how fragile our connection to the world actually is because one blown transformer causes the "digital age" to evaporate into candlelight.

But the power is back and the internet is humming and I have a lot of catching up to do. While I was sitting in the dark the world kept spinning and frankly it seems like it spun off its axis. From high-level resignations to historic betrayals the news cycle didn't wait for my electricity to come back on. So grab your coffee while the pot is still working and let’s get into the ugly and unvarnished truth of what happened while the lights were out.

🗣️ The Minneapolis Lie Collapses… The first domino in the DHS cover-up has fallen. Tricia McLaughlin who was the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs resigned effective immediately. She was the architect of the "domestic terrorist" narrative used to justify the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. As video evidence emerged proving the victims were unarmed citizens rather than terrorists her position became untenable. She is heading for the exit before the rest of the house of cards comes down.

⚖️ NAACP vs. FBI in Georgia… The fight for voter privacy has moved to federal court. The NAACP filed an urgent motion to stop the FBI from "misusing" voter data seized during the raid on the Fulton County elections hub. The concern is that the seized voter rolls will be weaponized for immigration enforcement or political purges rather than the specific criminal investigation cited in the warrant. They are demanding a strict firewall to protect the personal data of millions of Georgia residents.

🤡 The "Illegal Voter" Self-Own… Kristi Noem’s attempt to prove massive voter fraud backfired spectacularly. She cited the "criminal alien" mayor of Coldwater Kansas as proof of an invasion. It turns out the mayor named Jose Ceballos is a lawful permanent resident who has lived here for 50 years and he is a Republican who voted for Trump three times. The administration is literally prosecuting its own supporters to keep the fear-mongering narrative alive.

🌍 Geneva Talks & Odesa Missiles… Peace talks have begun in Geneva but the mood is icy. The U.S. delegation led by real estate developers Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner is pushing for a settlement before June. Meanwhile Russia sent its own message by launching 400 drones and missiles at Ukraine overnight knocking out power in Odesa. The diplomats are talking but the civilians are freezing.

🕊️ Rest in Power: Rev. Jesse Jackson… The Titan has gone home. The Rev. Jesse Jackson passed away Tuesday at age 84. From the balcony of the Lorraine Motel to the campaign trail of 1984 he was a force of nature who taught a generation to "Keep Hope Alive." He didn't just witness history because he shaped it by breaking barriers that allowed leaders like Obama to follow.

🧨 Shawn Ryan Declares War on MAGA… Former Navy SEAL Shawn Ryan has broken ranks. In a scorching podcast monologue he accused the Trump administration of "protecting pedophiles" by refusing to release the unredacted Epstein client list. He tore apart the "Dow 50,000" defense arguing that economic success is worthless if the government is shielding monsters. It is a major fracture in the base led by one of its most influential voices.

🚁 The Order That Left a Sailor Behind… A bombshell NBC investigation reveals that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem attempted to divert a Coast Guard C-130 from an active search for a missing sailor to fly a deportation mission. Seaman Bryan Lee was lost at sea while the plane that could have saved him was reassigned to boost expulsion numbers. It is a stunning betrayal of the military code "leave no man behind."

📺 Anderson Cooper Quits CBS… The exodus at CBS News has begun. Anderson Cooper has resigned from 60 Minutes in protest after the network hired controversial "longevity expert" Peter Attia. Leaked emails revealed Attia’s sycophantic relationship with Jeffrey Epstein including jokes about "JE withdrawal." Cooper refused to share a masthead with him signaling a massive revolt against the network’s new leadership.

📉 The QuitGPT Revolt… Over 700,000 users have cancelled their OpenAI subscriptions in the "QuitGPT" movement. The backlash is driven by revelations that execs Greg Brockman and Sam Altman are major donors to the MAGA agenda and that the company is partnering with defense contractor Leidos. Even Apple and Microsoft are distancing themselves treating the company as a "toxic asset" rather than a partner.

🚫 Colbert vs. The FCC… Stephen Colbert broke the fourth wall and the rules on Monday night. He delivered a blistering takedown of his own network CBS for barring him from interviewing Texas Rep. James Talarico. Executives cited fears of the FCC and Chairman Brendan Carr effectively issuing a gag order. Colbert exposed the "anticipatory obedience" of corporate media in real-time.

The electricity might be back on in my house but looking at these stories it feels like the lights are rapidly going out everywhere else. We are seeing a pattern of institutions turning against the very people they are supposed to serve. From a DHS Secretary who abandons a sailor to boost deportation stats to a tech giant that sells your data to build a surveillance state the betrayal is becoming systemic. It is getting harder to distinguish the public servants from the public enemies.

This is exactly why independent voices matter more than ever. When the networks are silencing their own hosts out of fear and the government is prosecuting its own voters to prove a point we cannot rely on the official narrative. The dark times I experienced in my living room last night are a metaphor for the information blackout they are trying to impose on all of us. They want us in the dark so we can't see who is flipping the switches.

So keep your flashlights handy and your batteries charged. The storm outside my window is finally starting to break but the political storm is just making landfall. We have to be the ones to keep the lights on for each other. Stay safe and stay dry and above all else stay awake because they are counting on you to fall asleep.

I don’t put this behind a paywall. I never will. But if my work means something to you, you can support it directly…the links are below. Every contribution keeps me independent and keeps this going.
