Good morning, friends. Welcome to the Thursday dispatch.
If you are feeling like the stress level in Washington has officially hit "Clark Griswold on Christmas Eve," you are not alone. The government right now feels exactly like the Griswold house: the lights aren't working, the tree is on fire, the in-laws are screaming at each other on the front lawn, and Cousin Eddie just parked the RV in the driveway to let us know the sewage is full.
We were promised the "hap-hap-happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny Kaye." Instead, we are getting slashed grants, vandalized portraits, and a healthcare crisis wrapped in a bow. I have sifted through the wreckage of the news cycle so you don't have to. Grab some eggnog…you are going to need the Tylenol…and let's unwrap the disaster.
🎁 "The Jelly of the Month Club." The Fake Bonus. Just like Clark waiting for his pool check, the military was promised a big fat "Warrior Dividend" of $1,776 in last night’s address. But here is the reality: that check is written in invisible ink. The President claims it will be paid for by "tariff revenue" that the Supreme Court is likely to strike down. It is the political equivalent of a subscription to the Jelly of the Month club. It is the gift that keeps on taking from the deficit.
🚽 "The Sh*tter is Full." The Epstein Panic. The GOP knows the sewage backup is coming tomorrow. With the Jeffrey Epstein files set to drop on Friday, a leaked memo reveals that House Republicans are in full panic mode. They aren't preparing to expose the truth; they are preparing "damage control." The memo instructs members to frame the leaks as "hoaxes" and attack the media. They know the pipe is about to burst, and instead of fixing it, they are handing out blindfolds.
🔥 "The Tree is on Fire." The Healthcare Revolt. The family fight in the House GOP has officially knocked over the tree. Speaker Mike Johnson is playing the role of the Grinch, blocking a vote to extend healthcare subsidies that expire in two weeks. Four vulnerable Republicans finally snapped, calling the move "absolute bullsh*t" and signing a discharge petition to force a vote. Millions of Americans are facing a double-digit premium hike on January 1st because leadership prefers ideological purity over paying the bills.
🔌 "Cutting the Power." The War on Blue States. While the tree burns, the administration is cutting the power lines to the neighbors they don't like. In a stunning legal filing, the DOJ argued it is "constitutionally permissible" to withhold funds from "Blue States" as punishment. They are proving it by dismantling the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Colorado as payback for Governor Polis refusing a pardon. If you don't vote for them, they turn off your lights.
🐿️ "The Squirrel in the Tree." The Warnock Meltdown. In the middle of the chaos, something wild just jumped out of the branches. The President took to Truth Social to attack Senator Raphael Warnock (a literal pastor) for preaching about unity. Trump lectured the Reverend on "Church and State" while simultaneously threatening to seize NBC’s broadcast license for airing the interview. It is chaotic, it is loud, and it is tearing up the living room.
🖼️ "The Vandalized Living Room." The Portraits. It seems the "decorators" have lost their minds. Trump has added petty, insulting plaques to the official White House portraits of Obama and Biden, and replaced Biden’s painting with a photo of an autopen. It is an act of historical vandalism that treats the People’s House like a frat house.
👮 "The SWAT Team." Jack Smith’s Testimony. Finally, the police have arrived at the front door. Former Special Counsel Jack Smith testified behind closed doors that he has "proof beyond a reasonable doubt" of Trump’s criminal scheme to overturn the election. While the GOP tried to frame him as the villain, the transcript reveals he brought the receipts.
The house is a mess, the turkey is dry, and the cat is chewing on the power cord. It feels like every time we look at the news, another ornament shatters or another string of lights goes dark. The noise coming out of Washington is designed to be overwhelming, a constant static that makes you want to unplug everything and retreat. It is okay to feel exhausted by it. It is okay to look at the state of the union and feel like you are stuck in the worst part of the movie, waiting for a redemption arc that hasn't started yet.
But here is the thing: we are still here. The chaos is loud, but our resolve is quieter and much stronger. We have weathered storms before, and we will weather this one, too. They can cut the subsidies, block the aid, and vandalize the history books, but they cannot break the bonds that hold us together. We are going to get through this holiday even if we have to drag the burning tree out the front door ourselves. We will do it because we refuse to let the madness outside dictate the peace inside our own homes.
So, take a deep breath. Pour a drink. Hug your family a little tighter tonight. Remember that you are not shouting into the void alone; you are part of a chorus of millions who see exactly what is happening and refuse to look away. We will be back here tomorrow to clean up the mess, sweep up the pine needles, and keep fighting for the country we know is possible. Until then, keep your heads up. We are a lot tougher than they think we are.

😇👿 The 47th President is gone, but the Afterlife won't process his paperwork. Make Afterlife Great Again answers the ultimate question: What do you do with a soul too loud for Heaven and too chaotic for Hell? A savage journey through an Inferno that looks suspiciously like a campaign rally.
