Why I made BodyCal

Why I made BodyCal

Oct 28, 2026

Hey, Fraser here.

A while ago I was trying to sort my health out and kept googling stuff like "how many calories should I eat" and "what's a healthy weight for my height". Every site I landed on was a mess. Ads everywhere, pop-ups, cookie banners, and half of them wanted my email before they'd even show me the answer.

I just wanted a number and to understand what it meant. So I started building my own.

That turned into BodyCal. It's got calorie, BMI, body fat, protein, water, steps and a bunch more. The one I'm proudest of is the Full Body Report, where you put your details in once and it shows you everything on one page. You can save it and come back in a few weeks to see what's changed.

A few things I decided early on and still stick to:

- It's free

- You don't need an account

- Nothing you type gets saved on a server, it all stays on your device

I build and run the whole thing myself. Any coffees go towards hosting and give me more time to keep adding stuff people actually ask for.

If BodyCal has helped you even a little, that honestly makes my day. And if you've got ideas or found a bug, come chat in the Discord, I read everything.

Cheers,

Fraser
