Blue Door Education (VO/2165) is a voluntary organisation (registered NGO) based in Valletta, Malta. Our team of dedicated and passionate volunteers provides free literacy, language and life skill classes, both in person and online, for adult refugees and asylum seekers, and adult migrants with a social worker referral. Education enables upward social mobility, and each additional skill can mean higher income, leading to better access to nutritious food, sanitation, healthcare and accommodation. The hands-on linguistic first aid and practical skills courses we provide help refugees and asylum seekers rebuild their lives in their new host country.

Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. It breaks down barriers and unites us to achieve a better and more inclusive world for all. When you volunteer, you personally choose - or choose to change - what kind of a society we all live in. Our passionate and compassionate volunteers are the beating heart of our organisation. From teachers to techies, admin freaks to language geeks, communicators to facilitators, they give their time and knowledge to help others, and we couldn't run our school without them. Our teachers are TEFL/CELTA qualified and/or have a pedagogical qualification, as well as combined years of experience teaching in humanitarian contexts all over the world.

We rely 100% on donations to keep our school running, and all volunteers and learners at Blue Door Education are immensely grateful for the kind donations of classroom resources from individuals and organisations within the community. Furthermore, we are especially thankful for the unfaltering support we receive from the St Andrews Scots Church, without which this project would not exist.
