Über LGWare, the Blacklens
As a teacher, I see knowledge is under attack in the United States. This is especially true when it comes to minority groups. Books are being banned from schools at an alarming rate, and there is an attempt to change history. I discuss many social issues through the lens of a Black man in America. I use my experience as an English teacher, my degree in sociology, and years of research to write on Medium and Substack.
I'm currently working on a curriculum with a focus on REAL Black history. My goal is to remind students and people in general why Black people in America should be proud of our accomplishments. I constantly hear Black students use the term "Black" as a negative. If they knew and understood our history, there is no way they could ever use the term negatively again.
Originally, this was marketed as a class, but I quickly realized the students I wanted to join would not willingly take an additional class. Instead, this will be a Black Pride Program. We will still discuss Black history and Black culture, but I want to get rid of words like "class," "curriculum," and even "learning." The short-term goal is to get a few students to join for an 8-week session in Fall 2025.
Side note: Black Pride is not equal to the idea of white pride. For additional questions, please feel free to message me directly.
Any additional support will go toward supporting the program. Join my newsletter for an invite to the Black pride discussion.
