One Step at a Time — Our Week in CRPS Courage

Jul 13, 2025

This week has been about small steps, quiet strength, and deep breaths. Thank you for being here as we learn how to walk with pain, not against it.

Early in the week, we explored what it means to break tasks into small steps. We reminded ourselves that "One step is still a step"—especially on days where flares steal our energy. Pacing isn’t giving in; it’s choosing longevity over burnout.

Then, we practiced responding to pain not with fear, but curiosity. Instead of fighting the fire, we sat beside it. We softened. We breathed. That shift—tiny as it may seem—is how endurance grows.

We also returned to something simple but powerful: the idea that pain is part of your experience, not your identity. It's easy to forget. Pain tries to be loud, overwhelming. But we are more than what hurts.

And in a moment of deeper reflection, we talked about finding peace instead of staying stuck in the battle. Letting go isn’t weakness - it’s wisdom. Some of you shared that this is still hard. That’s okay. We're learning together.

There was also personal vulnerability. Billy, my assistance dog, was attacked by an off-lead staffie cross. It shook us. But he’s okay now, and more than anything, he needs reassurance, not revenge. We’re celebrating his bravery, and moving forward with gentleness—for both of us.

I also had a hospital visit after a fall. While the ambulance staff were amazing, the system let us down. I wasn’t even admitted—just discharged after hours in pain, barely seen. Yes, the fentanyl helped. But so did the compassion of strangers.

💬 I’d love to hear from you: What was your small win this week? What moment reminded you that you’re still here, still trying?

Together, we’re building a community where every step matters—even if it’s shaky, even if it’s small.
