I was contacted a while ago by a couple from Canada that were planning on coming to Costa Rica to do some birding. They had come across my YouTube channel while searching for some info on Costa Rica. After watching my videos, they decided to drop me an email and see if we could meet for a coffee! They told me they were going to be staying here in Jaco and were interested on hiking some of the trails they had seen in my videos.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, when I finally met Kristin and Jim at a local coffee shop. I was a bit nervous to meet them, but it turns out that we have a lot in common and the conversation seemed to flow with ease. Our coffee meet up ended up lasting several hours, and we even closed the place!
The couple are big into birding so we planned to do a few hikes during their stay here in Jaco. Kelly, who is also a birder, came along as well on the hikes. The first hike went very well, and so we decided to go on a second hike. In total we did about 5 or 6 hikes together!
I learned so much about birds in the few weeks that Kristin and Jim were here. Jim is incredible at identifying birds, and even knows most species by their call. Kristin and Kelly are incredible when it comes to spotting birds. It felt as though we were coming across some kind of amazing bird every few meters!
We were having such a good time on our hikes that we all quickly became friends (funny how YouTube keeps bringing friends to my life! LOL) Kristin and Jim even agreed to be in one of my YouTube videos, where I thought I would change things up a bit and have a video that focused on birds! On the day that we filmed, we saw several amazing species of birds. Among my favourites were the bat falcon, the gartered trogon, and the tinamu. I want to send out a huge thank you to Kristin and Jim for sharing their passion for birds with Kelly and I. It was a wonderful experience to meet them and share so many laughs. Hope they come back to visit soon!
