Empowering Refugees and Asylum Seekers Through Theatre

At Beyond Borders Theatre Group, we’re building something extraordinary: a diverse and inclusive community where first-generation migrants from all over the world come together to create, connect, and express themselves through theatre.

Now, we’re expanding our reach to welcome refugees and asylum seekers into our workshops and performances, offering them a safe space to:

• Build confidence in public speaking and communication.
• Practise English in a creative, supportive environment.
• Learn about theatre and acting.
• Share their unique stories and amplify their voices.
• Perform on stage and experience the transformative power of self-expression.

In Nottingham, refugees and asylum seekers make up 1.7%–3% of the city’s population, with over 70% under the age of 35. Many face significant challenges, including isolation, language barriers, and mental health issues.

Beyond Borders Theatre Group directly addresses these challenges by:

• Building confidence and communication skills.
• Offering a platform to share unique stories and foster empathy.
• Promoting social inclusion and a sense of belonging.
