A proposito di Bernadine Fox
Supporting survivor-led work rooted in respect, dignity, and access
Meet Bernadine Fox, a disability rights activist, mental health advocate, and peer support worker with more than 40 years of lived and professional experience.
In recent years, Bernadine has focused her work on bringing awareness to an emerging issue known as therapy harm (#TherapyToo). She provides non-clinical, peer-led support and survivor education for individuals harmed by therapists, particularly in cases of therapy abuse and exploitation, through written resources, workshops, Q&As, and survivor-led support groups. This work is grounded in peer support and advocacy, not therapy or clinical treatment.
She is the author of a range of written materials that are freely available on her website. These resources help survivors name and reframe their experiences, including defining therapy abuse and exploitation and examining ethical boundaries in therapy, and are used by advocacy organizations. Fox’s activism also includes speaking truth to power by directly challenging the systems that enable this harm.
Trauma-informed, peer-led support for therapy abuse and exploitation remains difficult to find. Many survivors seek her out from around the globe and are recovering from profound harm and betrayal by a professional they trusted. Often this is compounded by systems that failed to respond or protect them afterward. Many arrive burdened by catastrophic emotional, financial, and psychological harm. As a result, much of Bernadine’s work is offered pro bono or on a pay-what-you-can basis.
This space exists to help sustain that work.
Support here helps make possible:
Free or subsidized survivor workshops, 1:1 peer support, and support groups
Independent, trauma-informed advocacy rooted in lived experience
Access for survivors who would otherwise be turned away
Bernadine does this work as both an advocate and activist, and as a survivor of therapy abuse and exploitation. She understands what it means to be silenced, and what it takes to reclaim voice. Her work is grounded in truth, safety, dignity, and collective care, not charity or pity.
Supporting this page means helping survivor-led work continue and helping others access support when systems have failed them.
