I moved to buymeacoffee.com because I am sick of the dark side of social media. Sure, it can be a great (and cheap) marketing tool but it's impossible to have real sacred experiences on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. At least, so near impossible that people have forgotten how to try. The best you can hope for on social is a self satisfied smirk and a kind of numb doomscrolling. My hope is that by bringing my followers off that platform, I'll be able to create a unique oasis on the net for community and art.
Right now, as I'm writing this, it's a community of one. And I'm scared. I'm scared to fail. Scared that my attempt at being an artist will be met with frustration, starvation, and humiliation. But I've decided not to let that stop me anymore. I'm going to make what I want to make. If I have to work hard to succeed in life, I want to work for myself doing the work I think that matters most. If I don't make it, this will be my monument to trying.
If even one person is encouraged to make their own art by me, then it was all worth it.
