Please don't forget my dog, Wasabi♥

Jun 06, 2025

Some of you may already know, but I said goodbye to my beloved dog, Wasabi, last October.

I can now look at his photos without breaking down, but watching videos is still too painful.
There’s something about seeing him move, hearing him bark, or just sensing his breath through those recordings that brings the loss into sharp focus.
It tightens my chest in a way that photos never do.

To those of you who have lost a beloved dog, cat, or any other animal companion — how did you get through this kind of grief?

I still remember the view we shared on his last day, as we headed to the animal hospital.
He sat quietly, gazing out at the ocean.
I can’t help but wonder if there was more I could’ve done for him. The regret is hard to let go.

I see neighborhood dogs, and they’re adorable — but when I watch them faithfully follow their owners, I’m reminded:
“They’re not my dog.”
And that realization hits me all over again.

After just ten months of marriage, my husband began his long battle with illness.
In those difficult years, Wasabi and knitting were my sanctuary — the only things that brought me peace.

If you've walked this path before… how did you make it through? What helped you move forward?
