My first Rolife model

My first Rolife model

Aug 17, 2025

My daughter gifted me a Rolife model for my birthday last year. I had seen it in different stores many times but never bought one for myself. So this was my first chance to try assembling a model. It was a corner bookstore—a theme I would have chosen anyway if I were to buy one myself.imageTo make mine a little different from other corner bookstore sets, I repainted it with my own colour choices using acrylics. Painting turned out to be the most enjoyable part of the process. I loved seeing the furniture come alive in colours I liked, with a more vintage feel. I chose three main shades: light blue, white, and black.imageOne of the trickier parts was setting up the electrical wires, but thankfully the instruction booklet was very clear, and I managed to get them working. Another challenge was assembling the larger pieces, which required a wooden hammer. Luckily, I had one on hand—it came with a big plastic wardrobe we bought for the house.imageIt took me about one and a half months to complete the model. The moment everything finally came together was deeply satisfying. I think I assembled over 90 tiny books just for this one project! And when the light turned on, the whole bookstore lit up beautifully.

imageBuilding miniatures is truly wonderful. It lets us step into places we may never physically visit, encourages us to imagine and to wonder, and gently reminds us to stay curious.

If you’re interested to see the process of me building this model, I have a 90mins video that took me over the 1.5 months to record. Here’s the link.
