A proposito di BattalionSAR
Battalion Search & Rescue (Battalion SAR) is an all-volunteer humanitarian organization working in the U.S.–Mexico borderlands.
We conduct active desert searches for people in distress and for the deceased. Our work is about presence and witness — to the cruelty of the borderlands, the systemic violence that places people in harm’s way, and the suffering that follows when institutions fail to act.
Every search is an act of protest. We show up where others do not. We document what we see, report what we find, and hold government agencies accountable — including demanding that the deceased are recovered and treated with dignity.
Battalion SAR is co-led by Abbey Carpenter and James Holeman and supported by a predominantly female volunteer base, alongside veterans, faith leaders, retirees, and everyday people who refuse to look away. We are completely volunteer-run, with no salaries and no government funding.
Our current work focuses on two heavily underserved regions:
The Chihuahuan Desert west of El Paso, New Mexico, where more than 100 women and young girls have been found deceased in less than two years
Remote stretches of the Sonoran Desert in southwest Arizona, where we conduct multi-day backpacking searches, sleeping on the desert floor
Your support helps cover the everyday necessities that make this work possible:
•Fuel for volunteers and search efforts
•Water, food, safety, and field gear
•Vehicle upkeep and access costs
•Mapping, documentation, and communications
Supporting Battalion SAR means standing with people who are treated as disposable — and insisting that their lives, and their deaths, are lost but not forgotten.
Thank you for being part of this work.
